Application Process - Deadline February 29, 2012

Step 1

Download the Application Packet (PDF file - click here) This packet includes the basic application form, instructions for your personal essay as well as forms for teacher recomendation and community member recomendation.

Step 2

Complete the one-page application form provided in the Application Packet.

Step 3

As described in the Application Packet, write an essay that clearly states why it is important to understand and protect Hawai‘i’s watersheds and coral reefs. Essay should demonstrate your enthusiasm and motivation to learn about these valuable Hawaiian resources and share that information with others in the community. An inquisitive mind and an interest in science will weigh equally with academic achievement. Provide a descriptive title and be sure you full name is written under the title. This essay should be about one page in length and must be typed clearly. Enclose this essay with your application form when you submit your application.

Step 4

Have one of your teachers (science or mathematics teacher) complete and submit the Teacher Recommendation Form included with the Application Packet.

Step 5

Have a community member (not a teacher nor a family member) familiar with your abilities and potentials complete and submit the Community Member Recommendation Form included with the Application Packet.

Be sure all items (application form, personal essay, teacher recommendation form and community member application form are submitted (postmark date) by February 29, 2012 to Dr. David A. Krupp, Department of Natural Sciences, Windward Community College, 45-720 Kea'ahala Road, Kane‘ohe, HI 96744.



All students should be aware that they are expected to actively participate in all program activities which include lectures, workshops, laboratory sessions, field activities, stewardship activities, and closing symposium. The program meets 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 4, 2012 through and including July 13, 2012. In addition, all students are expected to participate in the closing symposium to be held on Saturday July 14, 2012.
