Heeia Stream Water Quality Monitoring

Site 6:  The Long Bridge

Our sixth sampling site is from the long bridge as you enter Heeia. At this site, the water is shallow and spreads out over a soft, silty, mud bottom. Vegetation growing in the stream is predominantly invasive, alien mangrove (Rhizopora mangle and Bruguieria sexangula) with a few Milo (Thespesia populnea) and Hau (Hibiscus tiliaceus) trees.

PH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and dissolved oxygen levels are all similar to the Wetlands site: Slightly acidic pH, low levels of dissolved oxygen, and high levels of BOD. The water temperature decreases in this area, probably due to the tree cover from the Mangroves.
